Needles track pants are best chosen in two steps: pick the fit, then the fabric. H.D. is wide and darted, Narrow is slim, the Track Pant is straight and the Boot-Cut flares. Heavyweight jersey suits daily wear, smooth polyester suits heat, and velour suits colder evenings. Prices here run from $200 to $249.
Four leg shapes cover nearly everything the label makes in this category. They share the same vocabulary, contrast side tape, the papillon embroidered on the thigh and a drawcord elastic waist, so the choice really comes down to how much room you want between cloth and leg.
H.D. (hiza deru). The name translates as knee sticking out. Darts at the waist and hem build volume through the thigh and knee, and the hem draws back in, so the leg balloons slightly rather than falling in a straight column. It is the fit most people picture when they hear the brand name. Browse every colour in the H.D. track pants collection, or read my full H.D. guide.
Narrow. A slim leg with the same trim details. It is the one I hand to people who dress in tailoring most of the week and want a track pant that does not argue with a blazer. The Narrow track pants collection holds the velour pairs and a Charcoal version.
Straight Track Pant. The classic cut, neither wide nor slim. The Needles Track Pant in Dark Green ($210) is described on its sheet as a straight fit, and it is the most neutral shape of the four.
Boot-Cut. A seventies flare in blended velour, finished with the same striped tape. It is a specialist piece, best worn with a boot or a chunky loafer that fills the flare. If you want all four explained against each other, the fits comparison page lays them out.
Fabric is where Needles track pants change character. The table below sorts every in-stock fabric by where it appears and what it costs. Any fabric shown is taken from the product listing; nothing here is guessed.

Heavyweight jersey is the workhorse: dense, soft and matte, with enough body to hold the H.D. shape. Smooth polyester is lighter and carries a low sheen, and it moves more when you walk. Velour has a short pile that reads almost like suede from a distance. The poly smooth Track Pants sit in their own poly smooth collection, velour pairs in Needles velour, and I wrote a longer piece on Needles poly track pants for anyone deciding between shine and matte.
A lot of people search for Needles black track pants specifically, and I understand why. Black flattens the volume of a wide leg, so the H.D. looks deliberate instead of oversized, and the contrast tape becomes the focal point. We currently have black in four forms: the H.D. Trackpants in Black at $210, the H.D. Trackpants in Black & White ($220) in heavyweight black jersey, the Narrow in black velour at $249, and the poly smooth Track Pants in Black at $249 or Black Brown at $229.
If I had to pick one black pair for someone who owns no Needles yet, it would be the jersey H.D. For a person who wants black to look quieter still, the Poly Smooth Track Pants in Black Brown ($229) soften the contrast. For a darker palette beyond black, the best Needles track pants roundup compares my current picks.
My own rotation for the last stretch has been three pairs, and they taught me more about fabric than any spec sheet. The first was a navy jersey H.D. I wore it three or four days a week through a mild Los Angeles winter. The jersey is heavy enough that the pant keeps its outline when you sit and stand all day, and the darted knee pushes forward in a way that makes the leg look like it is mid-stride even when you are waiting for coffee. After a couple of months, the fabric softened and the waistband relaxed into my shape.
The second pair was a grey velour Narrow, which I kept for evenings. Velour is warm against the leg and has a pile that catches light differently depending on which way it has been brushed, so the grey looks silvery in one direction and nearly charcoal in the other. I found it dressy enough for dinner with a knit polo and a dark jacket. It needs gentler handling than jersey: I wash it cold, inside out, and never put it near a dryer.
The third was a Wine H.D. in smooth polyester, bought for a humid summer trip. It weighed almost nothing in the bag, dried overnight on a hanger, and draped in long folds instead of standing away from the leg. The colour looked richer in sunlight than on the screen. If I travel again in heat, that fabric comes with me before anything else.
Across all three, the constant was fit. I size up one from my US size in Needles, and I have never regretted it on a track pant.

Pairs I would point you to from this guide: the H.D. Trackpants in Navy ($210), the H.D. Trackpants in Wine ($220), the H.D. Track Pants in Azure ($245), the Narrow Track Pants in Grey Velour ($249) and the Narrow Track Pants in Charcoal ($249). Buying from outside Japan raises its own questions, and I cover them in where to buy Needles track pants in the United States and where to buy genuine Needles track pants. Heavyweight jersey. It is soft, dense and matte, holds the H.D. shape from morning to night, and softens further over the first weeks of wear. It is the fabric on the Black, Navy, Purple and Taupe H.D. Trackpants here, priced $210. Smooth polyester is the better pick for heat or travel, and velour for colder evenings, but jersey is the one I wear most.
Yes. Black makes the wide H.D. look intentional rather than baggy and lets the contrast side tape do the talking. It also pairs with almost any top, shoe or jacket colour. Here you can get black in heavyweight jersey H.D. from $210, black velour Narrow at $249, and poly smooth Track Pants in Black or Black Brown from $229.
Yes. Needles is a Japanese label and uses Japanese sizing, which runs roughly one size smaller than US sizing. A relaxed fit usually means going one size up. Because every pair has a drawcord elastic waist, going up adds leg room and length without leaving the waistband loose. Check the size guide against a pair you own before ordering, since orders cannot be changed after placing.
